My kids are so happy and their improvement is amazing! I'm going to join with my husband next week (the intro class was excellent!). My advise is: If you are looking for a martial arts school for you or for your kids, go to visit International Martial Arts first! Thank you IMAA, thank you Sensei Ruocco! |

Dear Sir,
Once again I would like to express my thanks for your specialized attention and helping me get my mental and physical condition back into shape. I would also like to congratulate you on your success at the competition at Wide World of Sports in Orlando Florida. I value the teaching techniques you utilize when working with individuals at the International Martial Arts Academy. I appreciate how you take each individual and are able to allow them to build confidence in themselves and work with their talents and maximize their capabilities. I am proud to be a student at the International Martial Arts Academy, and highly recommend your Dojo to anyone who desires to build self confidence in themselves, increase their self esteem, or simply study the art of Martial Arts. Coming from a family of professional athletes, I appreciate your hard work and your teaching techniques. Keep up the good work. Your youth program is great and strongly recommend it to everyone, both youth and adult.

I need and want to thank Sensei Daniel Ruocco. If it wasn't for him, I would not be here writing about my experience. He saved my life.
On August 14, 2008, I was attacked by someone who I once knew as a friend. I am a 5'4", 145 lb. woman. My assailant was 5'11" and about 200 lbs. He clearly loomed over and severely out weighed me. He was intoxicated and I didn't realize it until after I had allowed him entry to my home. Once I realized his condition, I asked him to leave. He then decided to make some unwanted advances and suggestions that forced me to demand on no uncertain terms that he leave immediately. These demands on my part infuriated him. Before I could realize what was happening he had struck me and I was on my back on the tiles of my kitchen floor. He was trying to strangle me. I froze for a moment, thinking to myself 'How can this be happening?! He's supposed to be my friend! This CAN'T happen!' and then another voice, a clearer, stronger, calm voice with frigid ferocity said 'No. It's not going to happen. You know what to do. You're TRAINED to know what to do.' Once I snapped to, I gave my assailant a quick strike to the face that startled him and caused him to lean back just enough for me to place a push kick in the center of his face and to throw him off of me.
What happened then for the better part was a blur, but a huge fight did ensue. I remember striking him with an elbow across the right cheek, a left hook to the chin/lip, a knee to the abdomen, a roundhouse to the ribs as well as a good number of judo throws, mostly tai otoshi and ippon seoi nage. It was after one of, actually the last tai otoshi, that my assailant exposed his back to me and sat up in an attempt to catch the wind that had been knocked out of him. When he did this, I was able to apply a choke that Sensei taught me. The particular name escapes me now, but basically, if you don't cut off the air flow, then you will cut off the blood flow to the brain; in either case, whoever you apply this choke to WILL PASS OUT. And he did. He struggled at first and pulled against me which only added his body weight to mine, hence applying over 300 lbs of pressure to the choke as opposed to my 145 lbs. After what seemed like an eternal second, he started to and finally went limp in my arms and the voice came back and said 'You can let go now. He's not moving.' I managed to drag his body out my front door and lock him out. I then frantically searched for the battery of my cell phone (He'd thrown my phone against the wall and the battery flew out to who knows where).
During that hysterical search he started pounding on the door demanding I let him back in. When I refused he then decided to call the police, claiming that I was the one who had assaulted him. I thought he was lying and called his bluff. He really should have been bluffing, for when the police arrived, they smelled the alcohol on him and once I allowed them into what once was my home and they saw not only the shape it was in, but also the one I was in, they arrested him and charged him with felony battery.
I had a few wounds from the whole thing; a split lip, a puffy eye, a headache (from where he hit my head against the tile while trying to choke me) cuts, bruises and what ended up being a permanent scar across my left cheek where he struck me and cut my face open. He on the other hand was sent to the hospital with a split lip, black eye, a sizeable gash across one of his arms and ribs, 3 broken fingers, 2 fractured/ 1 broken rib and a bruised larynx, from where I had applied the choke. The police and paramedics after hearing about how he had sustained his injuries told me that they had no doubt in their minds that had it not been for the training I had received in Martial Arts that it most likely would not have been a felony assault scene that they would have been called out to, but one much more severe...
So that's it. That's my story. I had to leave South Florida shortly after this happened to pursue a new career opportunity that has so far proven to be a great thing for me, but I still wish I could be back and the dojo and training under Sensei Daniel, to whom I an forever endeavored to. I still train. As I travel from city to city I find a school and I train and I always astonish the teachers with what I know, all of which I learned from Sensei Daniel.
I can't emphasize enough the importance of knowing martial arts. I can't emphasize enough that all women should know martial arts or at least some sort of self defense. And above all, I absolutely CAN NOT emphasize enough how important it is to find not only the right school, but the right teacher to teach you those things and how to use them.
International Martial Arts Academy is that school. Sensei Ruocco is that teacher.
I should know. They made it possible for me to be here in order to say so.
